City of Richmond announces Inagural Arts Awards
The City of Richmond welcomes nominations for the inaugural Richmond Arts Awards, a program to recognize the artistic achievements and contributions to the arts community by City residents, artists, educators, organizations and business leaders.
Awards will be presented in six categories: Business and the Arts, Arts Volunteerism, Cultural Leadership, Artistic Innovation, Arts Education and Youth Arts.
Please see the brochure which describes the criteria in each of the categories, important dates, and the nomination process.
Deadline to submit your nomination(s): MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2009.
Richmond Arts Coalition Surveys the Candidates - October 20, 2008
The Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC) is currently conducting a survey of all Mayoral, Council and School Trustee candidates to gauge candidates knowledge of and response to arts-related issues in Richmond. “We felt that this was a more personal approach in lieu of hosting an all-candidates meeting” said Janice Froese, vice-chair of RAC. “This way, we can ask pointed questions of all candidates so everyone has an equal chance of providing a comprehensive answer.” Read more...
Richmond Arts Coalition advocates for Richmond Visual Artists - September 10, 2008
The Richmond Art Gallery which has historically programmed five annual shows at the Gateway
Theatre recently informed the Theatre they would be unable to curate shows in their lobbies this
year due to a lack of resources at the Gallery. In order to ensure a continuing opportunity for
Richmond artists to display their work locally, the Richmond Arts Coalition approached the
Gateway Theatre to request the continued use of their lobbies as a satellite art gallery. Gateway
Theatre has agreed to create a call for submissions for Richmond Artists, and provide the space
and resources to hang the selected artists’ work. Read more...
City Adopts Arts and Culture Scan - July 7, 2008
The City of Richmond has adopted the Arts and Culture Scan and Economic Impact Study and will incorporate its findings into the Arts Strategy. The study was initiated by the City of Richmond, Richmond Arts Coalition, Gateway Theatre, Richmond Chamber of Commerce and BC Children's Art and Literacy Society.
Richmond Arts Coalition Launches New Web Site – April 15, 2008
Richmond Arts Coalition launched their new web site for public viewing on Tuesday, April 15th, 2008. The site will further extend RACs' mandate to "create support for a diversity of cultural and arts experiences by ensuring that artists, arts organizations and arts supporters can contribute to the quality of life in Richmond."
Arts Community Meeting – April 1, 2008
The funding information session on April 1st was well attended. Suzanne Haines outlined funding programs from BC 150, Legacies Now – Arts sector, Arts Partners and how to apply for the Cultural Olympiad 2009 and 2010. RAC AGM - March 31, 2008
The 2nd RAC AGM was held on March 31st at 7pm. Thank you to all members who attended. The membership adopted the minutes and financial report as presented. A new constitution was presented to the membership to facilitate charitable status. After a lengthy discussion, the membership decided to keep the original constitution and remain an advocacy organization. RAC will consider charitable status in the future when there is more of a need for it.
