Phil Folkard photoI am basically self-taught, although some continuing education courses have been beneficial. At first my work was influenced by Cubism, especially Picasso’s Self Portrait, and by Symbolism. Later I studied Expressionism, which is reflected in French Café.
Finally I shifted my focus to Naturalism due to the influence of one of my teachers. This teacher was extremely meticulous about her work and I learned to be inhibited, constrained and to follow strict instructions. I did follow the lessons attentively but I was not hesitant to break some rules either and to eventually find a method of my own. I learned to absorb her technique but applied it with variation and subtlety.

    Montana King
work by Montana King

Montana KingI am Canadian born and live a bohemian life style. I am a very sensitive personality with a knack with words and colors on a brush. I’d say my main influence for rendering works of art is the illusive nature of nature and humans. I am like a magnet I draw in my environment. Being a gatherer of natural resources in the summer I produce many edible unique delights for fall and winter use, gifts and works of art.
Through time art has been misunderstood, by the mind of humans. Going to deeper levels of connected understanding is important in this era of convoluted mind spaces. Non-verbal controversy is created by a divided mind. We evolve and do we grow, does our brain have that capacity?

    Shirley Rampton
work by Shirley Rampton

Shirley RamptonBorn and raised in Northern B.C., I moved to the West Coast as a young adult and now reside with my husband, Craig, in Richmond, B.C. An avid painter and textile artist, it wasn't until 1987 when I retired from my job in a finance department that I was able to pursue both. I began taking as many art courses and workshops as possible. I now paint mostly in acrylic, moving away from realism into abstract and/or contemporary expression. Over the years I have found the creation of art with both paint and fabric very much connected. My studies in art have led me to designing art quilts, some of which have been accepted and won awards in juried competitions. I am an active member in four art and textile groups and my work has been shown at many group shows and other local venues.

    Jenny Ross
work by Jenny Ross

Jenny RossJenny began ceramics at Kwantlen College and then took a hand-building course with Laura Wee Lay Laq.

She loves the effects that wood has on the surfaces of vessels, both for the coil pots fired in sawdust and the high fired pots of the wood burning kiln, when ash is deposited on the pots during an exciting two day firing.

    Robin G. White
Amys gift by Robin G White

Robin White photoMy artistic style could be described as impressionistic realism. My early work was influenced by photography and my love of the beauty of nature. I took my first drawing class in 1991 with the noted atelier and painter, Joseph Wong. Since that time, I have explored impressionism, most recently in the rapid and challenging drawings of live models. My work has been sold both privately and by Ruddick's Fly Shop. Here I sold work from a series of impressionistic paintings of fishing flies. "Amy's gift" was inspired by a bouquet given to me by my daughter. The picture was drawn on illustration paper and coloured using Staedtler pencil crayons.
